Which hours to use
A full-time week in Ireland is usually 37.5 to 39 hours. Paid holidays are part of a salary, so keep 52 weeks unless you are paid only for the weeks you work. Full-time employees are entitled to 4 working weeks of paid annual leave plus public holidays.
To compare two offers, put them on the same basis. A salary of €40,000 is €19.72 an hour on 39 hours a week, and €20.51 on 37.5 hours.
From hourly pay to take-home pay
The hourly rate is your gross pay. Income tax, USC and PRSI come off it, just as they do for a salary. A single person on €14.15 an hour for 39 hours a week keeps about €487.44 a week. Use the salary calculator and choose Hourly to see your own figures, including Sunday premiums or overtime once you add them to your weekly hours.
